The key to the development of the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) lies in cultivating talents. An effective way to nurture innovative TCM talents and improve their sci-tech innovation competence is the cultivation of TCM graduate students
especially those candidates for academic degrees. Thus
we conducted a pilot case study on the graduate students for academic degrees of TCM and integrated Chinese and Western medicine in Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The curriculum system was optimized centering on "stressing classics and fundamentals for integration and innovation" to improve students′ research innovation competence so that they become qualified high level talents during the institutional progress toward world leading TCM colleges and universities and disciplines. Our study will provide reference for relevant reform and innovation of the teaching mode targeted at graduate students for academic degrees in TCM colleges and universities.
